Apathy From SCPD
Friday night around 9PM, SCPD responded to the area near Lincoln and Pacific for a welfare check on a male with a bloody face and a possible broken nose. Witnesses reported hearing a group of people yelling at the victim to “get out of Santa Cruz” and seeing a guy with a whip leaving the scene who might have been involved. By the time they arrived, SCPD couldn’t find a victim or suspect so they blew it off and dismissed the call. Hope nobody got lynched!
You Take My Meth Away
Wednesday afternoon around 4PM, SCPD responded to the area of Delaware and Shaffer (Bum Row) where they did a “compliance check” on a 51 year old male who was on probation. He had meth on him so they gave him a ticket and sent him on his way. I’m not even sure if they took his meth away. We don’t arrest them. We don’t treat them. We do NOTHING to address this problem. We give them tickets. And more tickets. And more tickets.
Fentanyl For Breakfast
Tuesday morning around 10AM, SCPD responded to the area under the Water Street bridge where they found a known (to them anyways) drug vagrant in possession of fentanyl. He was on probation. He was given a ticket.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
Wednesday morning around 3:30AM, SCPD responded to the area near Bixby and Barson after someone called SCPD and reported their Honda was just stolen out of their driveway. The stolen vehicle was eventually located at the Shell station on the 800 block of Ocean Street and the car thief was inside the gas station. SCPD arrested a 25 year old male and charged him with car theft, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of tear gas, and possession of stolen property, all felonies. He was on probation. The gift that keeps on giving! And he’s no longer in jail. Ready to give us more of his county probation approved bullshit.
Just Fresno Tourists
Early Saturday morning around 1:30AM, SCPD responded to the Hotel Solares on the 600 block of Riverside Drive after getting reports of a domestic disturbance of some kind. Someone in one of the rooms was heard beating on someone. The room was rented to someone from Fresno. The suspect would have been charged with robbery, felony domestic violence, false imprisonment, and making criminal threats. All felonies. If they would have caught and arrested him. Based on the details I heard, it sounds like the suspect might have been a pimp and the two girls in the room were “visiting” with him. I didn’t hear of anyone actually arrested here.
Grandpa is Safe But Pissed
Sunday afternoon around 2PM, SCPD responded to the 100 block of McMillan Drive after getting reports of a man who reportedly walked into someone’s home uninvited. The suspect was suspected of being under the influence of drugs, and the person who called 911 was concerned because their elderly grandfather lived in the home alone. When SCPD arrived, they determined grandpa wasn’t home and the house was empty, other than the drug addled loser who was breaking into grandpa’s house. Eventually he was charged with felony burglary, battery on a peace officer, drug possession, and committing a felony while out on bail. He ended up being charged with 17 different things, including 5 different felonies. Last check he’s still in jail on a no bail hold.
Oh Thank Heaven For 7/11
Last Saturday night around 11PM, SCPD joined Santa Cruz Fire and medics in responding to the 7/11 at Laurel and Chestnut after getting a report of a male who was beaten in the head with a skateboard. When they arrived, they found the victim but no suspect. The suspect was described as a male wearing a red hoodie carrying a guitar. They stopped a guy at Pacific and Elm with a skateboard who they seemed to think might have been involved. The victim was taken to Dominican for his injuries.
Stealing Shitty Wine From Rite Aid
Saturday night around 7PM, SCPD responded to the 900 block of Soquel Avenue after getting report of a robbery at the Rite Aid. According to the caller, someone came in and stole some wine before shoving either a security guard or employee out of the way. They eventually arrested a 23 year old male nearby. Last check he’s still in jail on a $50K bond.
Bum Hit and Run Near the Harbor
Thursday around noon, SCPD responded to the 600 block of Atlantic Avenue after getting reports of a male on a bike hitting a child and then leaving the scene. Apparently the victim was young girl who had some injuries to her mouth and was taken to the hospital. I don’t think they found the suspect.
And the Next Santa Cruz Mayor Will Be……
Sonja Brunner. And the next Vice Mayor will be Martine Watkins again. This was decided this past Tuesday at the final city council meeting of the month. Not that this is any huge surprise, as it follows the tradition they’ve used for many years now.
Santa Cruz City Council Gets Rejected For Overreaching
This past Tuesday, the Santa Cruz city council rescinded an earlier denial of the 831 Water Street development, saying updates from the developer would be considered at the Dec. 14th meeting. After the city received threats of litigation, the Santa Cruz City Council blinked and caved to the pressure. It’s like the Santa Cruz Warriors (our city council) vs. the Golden State Warriors (the state). Back on October 12th, the city council denied the project on a 4-2 vote (Watkins was absent). They apparently didn’t like the way the developer wanted to assign (or in the dumbass progressive view “segregate”) the low income units from the market rate units. Overreaching! If they met the requirement, you (the city council) don’t have the right to tell them how to build them. The developer of the project said that the state law that governed projects like this particular one under Senate Bill 35 did not allow a denial based on that reasoning. State officials agreed, and notified the city council on Nov. 9th that the city was potentially liable. And that’s all the city needed to hear to blink.

Small correction to your 831 Water St city council votes. In Oct. the council voted 6-1 to deny the project. Brunner was the only yes vote. She agreed with the subsequent State ruling. At last week’s meeting, the vote was 4-2 to rescind (throw out) the Oct. vote. With Watkins absent the four were Bruner (staying consistent), Meyers, Golder, Kalantari-Johnson. Cummings and Brown stayed consistent on the other side by continuing to vote No on any proposed affordable housing projects.
Well, at least the City of Santa Cruz is supporting the pulp wood and paper industry by continuing to hand out endless tickets that criminals ignore en masse.
You know your “legislator” is past their expiration date when they vote to deny an application not once, but twice after being informed by staff that the project is in compliance with the law and meets the objective criteria and then informed by the State that are idiots and have run afoul of State laws. Seems like it is always amateur hour when our local legislative bodies gather and just disregard the one thing they are charged with understanding – the law.
Worse, the laws the city council enacts are bloated, and so badly written as to be unenforceable. City council is a farce.
Water. Water Water…. Seaside put a moratorium on new water meters due to the drought… an idea for SC…no new meters…no new buildings
That part of Monterey County has had a water problem for many years. Not a new thing. Perhaps a desal plant will appear somewhere along the coast there (it has been discussed). I’d love to see a local campaign for a nuclear (yes nuclear) desal plant, right next to the Beach Boardwalk. Have the investors tell the locals that their already astronomical property values will go up even more, if water is available. Watch the local envionmentalists suddely love nukes. And tell the university that it will drive down the cost of student housing. Maybe they will rename Rachel Carson College to one of those nuke-friendly famous names that decorate the street signs on the upper west side.
In unrelated news, a gang of teen(?) thieves reportedly stole some $30,000 worth of sunglasses from a vendor at Del Monte shopping center, in Monterey. Say what? At the price I pay for sunglasses, that would be about 3,000 of them, maybe more. Remember the “night of mayhem” event in downtown Santa Cruz, some years ago? Some loonies took it literally. Amateurish, compared to recent happenings.
I like how more people are concerned with housing development projects then the drug an alcohol fueled violence just outside on the streets of SC. I guess if it doesn’t immediately effect them it’s not a concern. Who would want to live in SC no matter how cheap the rent can be when your vehicle will be broken into eventually many many times, when every time you step out side you’ll probably step in human POO or step on Or Walk by a needles on the sidewalk and street. Or when you get harassed And/or attacked for the 10th time By a “Protected Vagrant” and the police either can’t or WONT find them. Ya let’s just worry about “projects” In SC cause this is such a lovely place to live So put on your Favorite Santa Cruz Hoodie buy another Santa Cruz sticker for your vehicle or show your support for Meth Highway and add a HWY 9 sticker as well. This blog puts the stuff that’s wrong with SC right in peoples Faces and this is a main focus in the comments section. And also I know Ben has to report this cause well he knows people want to know about this stuff. And really does it matter what leaders are elected SC. SC has gone thru how many elections with how many different types of men and women in Charge and it’s only gotten WORSE So there my two cents there. I’ve always said there no real Community Brotherhood/Grass roots organizations for regular citizens of SC, but the Addicts and criminals sure got that operation DOWN. I still tell people as much as I can do read this blog hoping it’ll spark a community gatherings and a Movement. I think and hope if the ones truly considered about SC and want to see change would all come together and make some awesome Plans and strategies Then go thru with them.I know there many MANY super smart and creative people in SC it can be done! Cause I think if everyday good law abiding, tax paying, level headed people got together we can get some real attention. AND the YEARS that Ben has been pumping out this great blog will be like the Ultimate Weapon/slap/Evidence to the face to the laws and those who made the Laws way they are that are responsible for SC and places like SC that are breeding the Scum it allows to take over SC And places like SC. My wife has the Next door app and wow there tons on “Mierda” type stories on that app I think if our Mierda community links up with the Next door and Twitter communities oh and Facebook that would be just awesome. But that’s all online it’s easy to talk about change sitting in your home. I think it’s when we all get ourselves on the streets and make some noise we will have to get noticed. Or arrested for taking bad about the only citizens SC protects-the criminals and drug addicts. Mentally ill are basically invisible nowadays. I’ll bring rolls of penny’s so I’ll have our bail covered
